The mountain

Mt. Arayat1,030 m

Mt. Arayat is a lone stratovolcano rising from the Central Luzon plain in Pampanga, classed as potentially active, with its summit in Magalang; its North Peak reaches 1,030 m and its South Peak about 1,008 m. Declared a national park in 1933 and a protected landscape in April 2022, it is tied in Kapampangan legend to Mariang Sinukuan and her rivalry with Apung Pinatubo, and the White Rock is one of its landmarks. Patches of forest still hold monkeys, wild boar and civets, though much of the mountain is bare and exposed to strong sun.
