The mountain

Mt. Dulang-Dulang2,938 m

Mt. Dulang-Dulang, at 2,938 m the Philippines' second-highest mountain, is the main peak of Bukidnon's Kitanglad range, which also holds the country's fourth- and eighth-highest peaks, Mt. Kitanglad and Mt. Maagnaw. The trail climbs from pine and grassland into thick mossy forest of small, lichen-hung trees, where it stays cold even by day; Manny's Garden, the mossy forest just below the top, honours the Mindanao mountaineer Manny Serina. From the summit clearing the whole range is in view, with Mt. Apo in the distance. The mountain is the ancestral domain of the Talaandig, who hold it sacred, and climbers need their blessing: a datu sacrifices chickens before each climb, and climbers tie white cloth at the summit.
