Mt. Apo

Mt. Apo, 2,954 m high, is the highest mountain in the Philippines, a large dormant stratovolcano with solfataras in the Apo-Talomo range. It sits where Davao City, Davao del Sur and Cotabato meet, at the centre of Mount Apo Natural Park. Sulfur vents and deposits mark the ground near the summit crater beside the Boulders, a field of volcanic rock, and Lake Venado, the country's highest lake, lies below the top. It is sacred to the local Bagobo, its name may mean master or grandfather, and President Quezon made it a national park on May 9, 1936.
