Description
Mt. Pao is a forested peak in the mountains of northern Ilocos Norte, climbed from the town of Adams; at about 1,310 m it stands higher than nearby Mt. Palemlem. From Adams the route crosses rolling farmland and Cabacan Creek to the trail head, then climbs steadily through forest for about three hours to a clearing at around 1,000 m, a camp spot with views of Adams' peaks, the Cagayan side and the sea to the north and west. Another hour through forest leads to the summit, where rattan grows wild. Cabacan Creek is the last water source, and the trail turns slippery after rain, when limatik (leeches) are out.toMt. From Adams the route crosses rolling farmland and Cabacan Creek to the trail head, then climbs steadily through forest for about three hours to a wide clearing at around 1,000 m. Higher up, the trail opens to views of Adams' peaks, the Cagayan side and the sea to the north and west, before an hour more through forest to the summit, where rattan grows wild. Cabacan Creek is the last water source, and the trail turns slippery after rain, when limatik (leeches) are out.
